Training and conferences

To help tenants develop the skills they need, the Tenant Empowerment Programme provides a national tenant training programme, regional tenant networking conferences, a national information service and small community grants.  These are available to tenants from both local authorities and housing associations.

We currently work with two providers, InStEP and The National Communities Resource Centre (NCRC).

InStEP
InStEP provides:

  • a free helpline from 9am to 5pm every working day on 0500 844 111
  • a range of free information guides on subjects such as how to set up a tenant group, how to produce a newsletter, what choice-based lettings are, and the housing transfer process (you can download these from the web or order them through the post)
  • a yearly programme of regional conferences (which tenants can attend at reduced costs), covering a wide range of topics across both sectors
  • a range of more in-depth one-day training courses, and
  • a regular newsletter.

Visit InStEP’s website at www.instepservices.co.uk.

The National Communities Resource Centre (NCRC)
NCRC provides training and support for people living and working in low-income communities from their base at Trafford Hall near Chester.  Their courses help tenants to network and find practical ways to get involved in local issues.  NCRC also provide capacity building grants to tenant groups who have attended their courses.
