TSA makes appointments to Three Valleys Board

Date: 3 February 2010      Ref: TSA 05/10

The Tenant Services Authority (TSA) has announced today (Wednesday 3 February 2010) that it has made two statutory appointments to the Board of Three Valleys Housing Limited.

Three Valleys Housing (TVH), which manages around 5,000 homes in Derbyshire, has been placed under supervision by the TSA because of concerns about its governance and management.

The Board of TVH has agreed that it will join another housing association, and the TSA supports this decision. The two appointees will provide the Board with additional resources and expertise to oversee the work that will be necessary to select and join another group, and to maintain the quality of services to tenants throughout this process.

The appointees, who started this week, are:

  • Val Hammond, Chair, The Acclaim Housing Group
  • Lakhbir Jaspal, Deputy Group Chief Executive, The Accord Housing Group

Peter Marsh, TSA Chief Executive said, “We have been closely monitoring Three Valleys Housing Group and have decided that we need to take action to strengthen their Board whilst they look to join another housing association to secure the best outcome for current and future tenants.”

Ends.

1) The Tenant Services Authority (TSA) is the independent regulator for social housing.  It launched on 1 December 2008 and currently regulates housing associations.  From spring 2010, subject to Parliamentary approval, the TSA will also regulate other providers of social housing, such as local authorities and arm’s length management organisations.

2) The TSA is consulting with social housing tenants and their landlords, as well as stakeholders, to develop new standards to improve services for tenants. The statutory consultation, which begun on 12 November 2009, will close on 5 February.

3) It has yet to be decided which housing association Three Valleys Housing Limited will join.
