Supported housing association tenants

Supported housing association tenants

The Existing Tenants Survey (ETS) is a large and comprehensive survey of social housing tenants owned by the TSA.

Key findings

  • Supported housing tenants had an older age profile; 69% are over 55 years old, compared to 40% of general need tenants
  • In general, supported housing tenants were more satisfied with the overall service provided by their landlord than general needs tenants. Satisfaction had also increased since 2004
  • Satisfaction with the way that the landlord deals with repairs and maintenance was higher in supported housing tenants and had increased since 2004. They were also more likely to be satisfied with the physical condition of their home
  • Satisfaction with the neighbourhood was higher among supported housing tenants and they were less likely to report anti-social behaviour or crime as being problematic
  • Some supported housing tenants appear to have had negative experiences of tenant involvement and reported ‘having to deal with residents associations’ most frequently when asked for bad points about being a housing association tenant
